Monday, September 18th was a momentous day at the 15th Annual Summit Financial Group Charity Golf Tournament. One hundred and twelve golfers came out to support a great cause and play a round at the beautiful Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, and many more joined us for the evening portion of the event – the silent auction and dinner.
In fact, more people signed up to participate this year than any year previous. The outpouring of support we received was truly heartwarming, and we are thrilled to share that together we raised more than $50,000 for Rooms of Hope! The proceeds from the event will fund dream-room makeovers for seven children battling for their lives.
One of those children, 7-year-old Samantha, was able to attend dinner with her family. Dressed from head to toe in turquoise, her favorite color, she took the stage with RoH Executive Director, Shelley Ham, to discuss her vision of a giraffe-themed dream room. She remained on the stage to hand out the game trophies and raffle prizes. Bright and beautiful, she greeted each prize winner with a smile and a handshake.
Her sweet spirit, along with the compelling words of Shelley Ham, inspired the audience to reach new levels of giving.
Donations were pouring in at the end of the night. Two of our guests went so far as to give her their prizes – a giant tray of cookies and a family fun auction basket.
For all of those who participated in the event and to all of our donors and sponsors, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We hope you enjoyed the day, and we look forward to seeing you again at next year’s event.
Rooms of Hope is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that has brought joy and hope to dozens of children with life-threatening illnesses by lovingly designing and creating the room of their dreams. The Summit Golf Tournament has a proud history of raising money for deserving causes. Over the past 15 years, this event has raised over $300,000 for organizations that are making a difference in the Tri-Valley communities.
In researching possible beneficiaries for the Annual Golf Tournament, we look at local charities, specifically considering their mission and what impact Summit’s donation would have. When selecting one charity, there is no clean-cut answer, no easy decision. We receive multiple options each year and try to choose accordingly, knowing we can’t do it all.
Our criteria is the following: their work be focused in our local community, that they are small enough that our event can make a meaningful difference, and that they be organized enough to marshal volunteers and handle the administrative duties of our event. We welcome submissions for future recipients, and although we won’t be able to choose them all, we hope you keep the recommendations coming. Contact us with your nominee.
